UVFS Plano-Convex(PCX) Lenses, Uncoated/AR250-1650nm
UV fused silica plano-convex lenses feature a positive focal length, with one flat surface and one convex surface. Possessing positive optical power, they are widely used for focusing collimated beams, collimating point light sources, and reducing the divergence angle of divergent beams.
The focal length of each lens can be calculated by the simplified thick lens formula: f=R/(n−1), where n stands for refractive index and R is the surface curvature radius. These lenses are made of UV-grade fused silica with an Abbe number of 67.82, a key parameter characterizing material dispersion.
Compared with K9 optical glass, UV fused silica offers a broader spectral transmission range from 185 nm to 2.1 μm and superior transmittance in the ultraviolet band. It also features a lower refractive index, better optical homogeneity, smaller thermal expansion coefficient, higher chemical resistance and extremely low fluorescence, making it ideal for manufacturing a wide range of precision optical components.
UV fused silica plano-convex lenses are available in uncoated version and four broadband anti-reflection (AR) coated options: UV coating(250–450 nm), VIS coating(350–700 nm), NIR coating(650–1100 nm), and SWIR coating (1000–1650 nm). Anti-reflection coatings reduce surface reflection on each lens interface. An uncoated substrate reflects approximately 4% of incident light at each surface. AR coatings effectively improve optical transmittance, which is particularly critical for low-light applications, and also eliminate adverse effects caused by multiple internal reflections, such as ghost images.
