UVFS Right Angle Prism

Right angle prisms are commonly used to bend optical paths and redirect light beams by 90°. When two right angle prisms are combined, they can also be applied for image combination and beam offset. Compared with K9 optical glass, UV fused silica features an extended spectral transmission range of 185 nm to 2.1 μm and excellent transmittance across the ultraviolet band. It offers a lower refractive index, superior optical homogeneity, a smaller thermal expansion coefficient, enhanced chemical resistance, and extremely low fluorescence, making it the ideal material for ultraviolet optical applications.

Notes

1. Although the hypotenuse of a right angle prism achieves total internal reflection at a 45° incident angle, the reflectance will degrade significantly for non-normal incident beams. For applications with large incident angles, prisms with aluminum coating on the hypotenuse are recommended.

2. For optical systems requiring 180° beam retroreflection, prisms with aluminum coating on the right-angle surfaces effectively improve the reflectivity for large-angle incident light. Meanwhile, broadband anti-reflection coating on the hypotenuse helps reduce stray light interference.
